As you may have seen over several months, ELLE India is a great supporter of up and coming designers with a distinct point of view. Us included. Much gratitude. This July to add another feather in our cap the ELLE team featured Meera in their story ‘The Graduates’ which highlights the work, aesthetic and ethos of young designers across fashion genres. Meera was styled by Jahnavi Tampi in a knee length printed Missoni dress, her own accessories (long star pendant chain + assorted gold plated cuffs) and her own shoes. Even more fun was the interview after by Meera’s friend and ELLE features editor Chinmayee Manjunath. The resultant was an easy breezy shoot and interview capturing the essence of the brand and its creator. Femina magazine brought out a special issue titled ‘The Best of Femina – Faces’ and featured our products in the fashion editorial ‘Winds of Change’. The photoshoot was set in the interiors of India and shows off the new aesthectic in Indian fashion. Easy, breezy, effortless chic. Check out the pictures below… Another fun editorial feature of our work by ELLE India! We love the sepia toned softness of summer punched up with or juicy citrus toned acrylic cuffs and paneled necklaces. Visit the shop to get some of that summery goodness yourself. Dress proud as a peacock with our Proud Peacock collection available at PRET-AMODA.COM. Adorn yourself with eye-popping necklaces & bracelets encrusted with crystals, beads, metals & semi-precious stones! We’re so glad to announce our collaboration with designer Atsu Sekhose to accessorize his Resort 2011 runway collection at the recently concluded Lakme Fashion week. With the collection being as light-as-air as can be seen, the brief was: Clean, sleek, gold cuffs and neck pieces. No texture and no other colour. So finally this collection of sleek light gold-plated metal cuffs and bangles was born, with some looks of wooden bangles added in from our existing line. In the end the necklaces were thought of as being superfluous so we finalized with the cuff looks. Shop for these Limited Edition pieces and more at our online store or get in touch for custom-designed statement pieces. When the girls at Grazia magazine came to us with word of doing a jewellery issue we were thrilled to be chosen and given a one page feature no less. Seen here are some of our newest styles soon to be hitting the eShop and already available at the Creo Store in Mumbai. For more information, see the Stockists page. So tell us which pieces have you excited and we’ll get right on it. The Secret Scouters over at Brown Paper Bag Weekend featured our e-shop the day it launched and we could only love the way in which they read our style spot-on, deciphering it for non-fashion speaking folk much like the diagnostic process of a seasoned medical practitioner or wine-taster. As an aside, we quite like the moniker ‘Chainsmith’. Read on for the highs and lows. Chainsmith Meera Mittal raises an army of kickass chokers on her new web store. Prepare to put your neck on-line. Tough Love Meet Angela, pretty as a rose but armed with war chains, and Monique, shimmery and fairy-like but suited up in leather. In fact, there’s a whole battalion of feisty fighters – Serena, Anika, Alia – all waiting to choke you. Why? Because chainsmith Meera Mittal decrees so. Raising an army of uber-interesting neck pieces, each named after a woman, Meera combines feminine fabrics with metallic details, setting in motion chains of command that are hard to ignore. One of bpb’s favourite underground designers, this NIFT graduate has worked under fashion bigwigs like Ashish Soni, and launched her online store yesterday. Are we buying? Ma’am, yes ma’am! Pendant-ic! What’s best about Meera’s oeuvre (titled after her first name) is that it weeds out the usual beads and pendants. Instead, she uses jacquard and silk swatches, gunmetal fragments and flowers, semi-precious stones and industrial parts. “What goes into a necklace I am crafting depends a lot on what excites me at that time,” says Meera, who sometimes takes existing jewellery and works them into new pieces. From bib necklaces and long strands to collars, the store currently features day and evening wear sections averaging Rs 2,500, plus a few old pieces that are on sale. While some of the formal pieces do seem a little steep at Rs 4,500, they’re carefully crafted, well finished and (almost) worth the price. Also check out Meera’s online Look Book, where you can browse trend forecasts and celebrity styles compiled by the designer. Head of Operations Although the online store currently features more than enough merchandise to fill your virtual cart, Meera is already planning her next batch: a festive collection featuring necklaces, earrings and cuffs – it should start trickling in by this weekend – that promises to be a riot of colour. Also in the wings is Forever Bombay, a slightly lower end line of chunky street style jewellery. Padma Shree So from all the ladies, which one would you appoint to lead the troops? Meera picks Padma a cool-ugly, half-and-half necklace inspired by a lotus and studded with vintage crystals. As for us, we’re putting our necks on the line for Samara, golden, coiled and ready to strike! Getting there: Log on to www.meeramittal.com/shop, 10 day order processing for India, two weeks internationally with free shipping, start at Rs 500.
